2.2   Documents Concerning Amir Kabir
Among the documents, there is a report by a person named ‘Arastaktik’ who apparently was a Christian and worked at the court of the governor of Baqdad as a translator. After reading of the files relating to the later period of Muhammad Shah and early period of Naser-al Din Shah, it is understood that the court of Ottomans was not interested in the affair of Iran before Amir Kabir came into power and that there is hardly a mention of Iran during those years.

There is however a visible interest based on fear towards Iran in the Ottoman Court during the late years of the rein of Amir Kabir after the news of his authority and reforms reached outside of Iran. It can be clearly seen that there were a lot of rumors about the relationship between Teheran and Istanbul during those days and that there were much conflicting news on Amir Kabir’s reforms and intentions to the extent that the Ottoman government elects Arastaktik of whose identity we know very little and commissions him to travel to Iran to prepare a factual report on the affair.

His selection was perhaps due to the fact that he was not a Turk and hence he would be seen less suspicious. Arastaktik’s report is brief and concise. He says that as far as he could see the government of Iran was not seeking to invade the Ottomans. Concerning Amir Kabir, he says that even though he is arrogant like the rest of the Iranian politicians, he is however definitely wiser.
